East Defeats West 3-1 in 2011 NECBL All-Star Game

Lynn, MA – The Eastern Division All-Stars used offense to win the 2010 NECBL All-Star Game as they pounded the Western Division 10-0, but this year’s mid-summer classic the East used a different weapon – dominating pitching.
The East used all their pitchers on the roster in the game, and recorded a combined 11 strikeouts on the evening to dismantle a Western Division lineup full of power.
For a while it looked like either pitching staff was not going to budge, but in the third inning the East All-Stars got to Danbury All-Star Nick Williams, who got tagged with the loss.
Williams gave up only the second hit of the night to the East Squad as Tm Quinn, catcher from Old Orchard Beach, hit a one out single, which was followed by a double off the bat of Newport’s Jack Reinheimer putting runners at second and third base.
Kyle Johnson, outfielder from Newport, drove one run in as he reached first base on an error by second baseman Paul McConkey allowing Quinn to score making it 1-0.
The East would strike for another run in the inning as Brett Mollenhauer ripped an RBI single up the middle scoring Reinheimer to make it 2-0 Eastern Division.
The Western All-Stars would get on the board as McConkey redeemed himself with a one-out RBI double scoring teammate Trey Mancini from second base cutting into the East’s lead making it 2-1.
Brett Doran, All-Star from Mystic, tried to tie the game up as he attempted to score on the McConkey double but was thrown out on a strong throw from second baseman Mollenhauer and a great tag from Quinn.
That would be the final run the West would score, and the Eastern All-Stars would tack one more on in the fifth inning.
Kyle Johnson would lead off the inning with a double off Cameron Copping from North Adams, and would eventually score on a groundout by North Shore All-Star Eric Jagielo making it 3-1, which would be the final score.
Sam Dodge out of New Bedford came in and shut the door in the one inning save bringing the game to an end, and registering another victory for the Eastern Division. The win went to Sanford pitcher A.J. Bazdanes.
The All-Star Game Most Valuable Player award was given to Reinheimer as he finished the game 1-for-2 and scored a run.
