The Holyoke Blue Sox have been known this season for having a high octane offense with multiple players contributing to the cause in every game, but on Monday all the Blue Sox needed was the bat of Trey Mancini as he powered them to victory.
Mancini finished the game 3-for-4 with a two home runs and a double driving in six of the Blue Sox nine runs in the Blue Sox 9-3 victroy against the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide to imoprove to 11-4 on the season.
With Mancini having a great day at the dish, Blue Sox starting pitcher Desmond Poulson provided did not dissapoint with a stellar performance on the mound as he went six innings, allowed only four hits and struck out eight on the day to nail down his first victory of the season.
The Blue Sox got on the board quickly against the Raging Tide’s starting pitcher Chris Carmain, who got the loss, as after giving up a single to Eric Smith, a walk to Ronnie Freeman with only one out Carmain made a mistake against Mancini and it cost him.
Mancini unloaded on a 2-2 pitch sending it over the right field fence for a three-run blast to give the Blue Sox an early 3-0 lead.
The first baseman from Notre Dame would not be done as in his next trip to the plate he doubled down the left field line driving in Smith to give Holyoke a 4-0 lead.
That would hold until the seventh inning when Chris Jenkins came in gave up two leadoff walks followed by a triple by Riley Palmer, who finished the day 3-for-4, driving in Marcus Way and Riley Palmer to cut into the lead making it 4-2.
Then Palmer scored on a throwing error by Blue Sox second baseman Frank DeSico making it 4-3, those would be the last runs they would score in the game falling to 3-15 with the loss.
Holyoke would respond in the bottom of the seventh inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate, and scoring five runs to make it 9-3.
Part of that offensive outburst was once again Mancini as he hit his second home run of the game over the center field wall, scoring Freeman making it 9-3. Earlier in the inning new Blue Sox Alex Glenn broke out of his 0-for-3 slump ripping a RBI single up the middle scoring Chris McGowan and DeSico.
The Blue Sox will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to North Adams to battle the Steeple Cats with the game starting at 6:30 p.m.
